Welcome to the world of Purpose for Wellness, a space where science, psychology, and faith converge to help align purpose with passion. With me, your host, Clint Evans, let's explore how life's complexities and trials shape our journey and our character.
Navigating Change and Challenge
Broadcasting live from my home, I've realized just how much life has shifted, especially after launching a new business while parenting two children. Like many, I've felt the tumultuous nature of life—its peaks and valleys. This year especially, perseverance has been crucial. I've been delving into the concept of grit, defined as perseverance with passion, as a means to navigate and thrive amid life's unpredictability. We all face busy, demanding lives; when challenges arise, stopping isn't an option.
The Intersection of Grit and Rest
Grief, an unexpected guest, showcases the non-linear nature of our journey. It arrives unbidden, challenging our sense of time and space. Yet, it highlights the importance of finding purpose and gaining grip on life's turbulent moments. Through prayer and reflection, I've discovered rest, not in its traditional sense, but within the rhythm of work, especially as parenting has transformed my life. Embracing change means allowing rest to morph and finding it in unexpected places.
The Art of Self-Editing
A pivotal aspect of this journey is the art of self-editing. Just as I guide my children with love and understanding rather than criticism, I've learned the value of editing one's actions, attitudes, and choices. This intuitive practice shapes the inner and outer self, influencing our interactions and responses. It's a principle deeply rooted in values—particularly those related to behavior and reflexivity.
The Psychology of Perspective
Utilizing tools like relational frame theory helps us reshape our mindset. What do you think of when I say "dog"? Your mental image is uniquely yours, informed by your experiences. Our interpretations may differ, but the underlying framework of responses reveals universal human truths. This understanding fosters empathy and connection, emphasizing our shared journey despite diverse backgrounds.
Defining Purpose and Embracing Authenticity
Purpose infuses contentment into existence. Flowing through life's detours, purpose steers us towards vulnerability and authenticity. Whether through work, family, or faith, defining purpose brings clarity to each day. My personal journey has been marked by a quest for meaning—a process unchanged by trials. Difficult moments become opportunities for growth, reinforcing commitment to self-discovery.
Formulating Values and the Pursuit of Contentment
Inspired by spiritual insight and life's trials, I cultivate contentment amid adversity. A biblical passage often cited, yet misunderstood, speaks of finding strength through faith despite diverse life circumstances. Aligning personal values with actions creates a steadfast sense of purpose—regardless of spiritual beliefs. This philosophy, tied to values that resonate, offers resilience amid life's rapids.
Offering Tools for Growth
In my latest work, I'm excited to share a free resource, a weekly worksheet designed to align personal values with behaviors. Whether embarking solo or seeking support, these tools guide you toward sustainable change. If you're ready to delve deeper, additional resources, including one-to-one sessions, will soon be available. The ultimate goal? To help you uncover and embody your true value, grounded in your own unique journey.
In closing, remember that your presence alone holds immense worth. You are inherently valuable. As we navigate life's challenges together, let us be excellent to one another, enjoy simple pleasures, and continually learn from each experience.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Please like, share, and give feedback on this podcast. Continue to explore the intersections of purpose, perseverance, and passion, and I'll see you in the next episode.
